A yard model describes the physical layout of the container terminal facility to the functional modules in N4, and is key to keeping track of the container inventory and making intelligent decisions concerning container movements. A yard model consists of the naming tables that reference the blocks in your yard.
The Yard Models view lists the yard models that exist at the current scope level (Facility or Yard). Multiple yard models may exist per yard, but only one yard model can be active. The Active column indicates which yard model is active. The active yard model is view-only; you cannot edit it.
The Yard Model form lets you add and edit a yard model.
Follow these instructions to create a placeholder Yard Model.
Before you begin:
You must have created a yard in your topology. See Set up a basic N4 topology for instructions.
You must know the name of the yard that you created in your topology.
To create a placeholder Yard Model:
In N4 Configuration mode, click Models Yard Models. The Yard Models view opens.
Click the '+' button on the top right. The Add Yard Model form opens.
In the Name field, enter the name of the yard you created in the topology. In this task, we use the name 'YARD-PL'.
In the Description field, enter 'PLACEHOLDER YARD'.
From the Owning Yard look-up field, select the yard. (N4 derives the values available in this list from the yards defined in the Administration DBA
Topology
Topology view.)
When applying the yard model to the active yard, N4 verifies that the name of the yard model matches the owning yard. This match verification is essential for XPS to be able to connect to the correct cache. Therefore, while it is possible for a user logged into yard A to load a yard file that actually belongs to yard B, N4 prevents a user from making yard model B active because neither XPS nor ECN4 would be able to start successfully in such a case.
Click Save. N4 saves the information and makes the lower part of the form available.
Next step(s):
Add Bin Name Tables and Bin Names to the placeholder yard model (on page 1)
